Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO of 欧美高清, celebrated the 69 graduates of Randolph-Macon Academy and their academic success with 100 percent of the students being accepted in colleges across the country.
R-MA is a private boarding school with a military leadership about an hour west of Washington, D.C. Of the graduating cadets, there were 18 military academy appointments: 15 to the Air Force Academy, two to the U.S. Military at West Point, one to the U.S. Military Coast Guard Academy and three received Navy ROTC scholarships. Eight of the graduates are international students.
During his remarks as their commencement speaker, Dr. Brown advocated for the value of education using Booker T. Washington鈥檚 practical and economic framework. Do not consider education for education's sake, but for the service and contribution made to a nation in need of engineers, nurses, and those willing to serve their country. Dr. Brown told the students of his own academic and career success but also told the students to prepare to learn from failure and disappointment.
鈥淵our time to rise up and soar like eagles has come and soar, you will,鈥 he said. 鈥淎t R-MA, education for education鈥檚 sake will never be enough. You have been focused on building character, leadership, and lifelong commitment to service. Character and service means you put some things over profit. Thank you for continuing to focus on character and service, despite what society may say.鈥
Dr. Brown had the students stand and thank their parents and supporters for helping them reach this moment. He acknowledged those going into military service. 鈥淭hey have agreed to serve. Less than 1 percent of the population agrees to serve, so the rest of us can live freely. Thank you for agreeing to serve.鈥
Before taking his seat, he cautioned them all that they must be ready to fail. 鈥淭ake risks and work hard. You will fall down. What will matter more than anything is how you chose to get up.鈥
